Over her prep, collegiate and professional career, Libby Sugg has established herself as one of softball’s premier power-hitting catchers.
Libby set career offensive records at Franklin High School (2012-15) including batting average, hits, runs scored, runs batted in and home runs (40) while earning Tennessee Sports Writers Association all-state recognition each of her final three years and capped her tenure with the inaugural WilCo Award as Williamson County’s softball player of the year as a senior. She since has been recognized as a member of The (Nashville) Tennessean’s all-decade team.
Over four seasons (2016-19) at Brigham Young University, Libby played in all 228 games, starting 225 – all behind the plate – and graduated as the Cougars’ all-time leader in sacrifice flies while ranking among the program’s leaders in doubles, slugging percentage, RBI and home runs (49). A team captain her final two seasons, she earned all-American honors as a junior and ranked nationally in home runs per game as a senior, and was on the ASA/Team USA National Player of the Year watch list both years.
The ninth overall draftee in the American Softball Association (ASBA) 2019 draft by the E-1 Pro Ballers, Libby led the team in hitting and was among the league’s top three in batting average, doubles and home runs while earning first-team all-ASBA honors as well as being named Gold MVP at the league’s all-star game.
Libby has since professionally played in five other countries – Italy, Holland, Spain, Austria and New Zealand – and has been productive offensively in every locale.
During the 2021 Italian Serie A1 season, she led the team in batting average and RBIs and was fifth in the league in the ‘triple crown’ categories – average, homers and RBIs. In the postseason Women’s European Premier Cup tournament, she was second in doubles, fourth in batting average and slugging percentage and fifth in RBIs.
Libby spent the ‘22 season in Holland, played the following two seasons in Spain and was in Austria in ‘25 before joining her New Zealand club midway through the 2025-26 campaign – continuing to put up impressive power numbers throughout.
